Futon Information for Internet Research

Back to School with Futon Planet

Another semester of college nears. New and used text books are ready to be cracked open and bulk purchases of ramen noodles are ready to be microwaved. What about your sleeping arrangements?

Majority of college students either live in pre-furnished dorms or unfurnished apartments, and space is a concern. A full size bed can take up a good portion of your room, leaving you worried about stubbed toes as you tip-toe and squeeze yourself around your room.
Futon Planet offers a variety of futons allowing you to save valuable space in your room. During the day, host Super Smash Brothers tournaments in your room with excellent seating during the day, and convert your futon to a cozy bed after cramming for a test scheduled for the next morning. I’m going to go through some of the basic knowledge you need when searching for a futon for college.

Futon Frames

TrifoldIf you are just looking for a simple, low-cost futon I have two suggestions from KD Frames. First is the Tri-Fold Futon Frame. This is what we call an A-Frame. It is very low profile and allows you to use either the entry-level Orbit and Lunar futon mattresses to cascade, or double under.

BiFoldNext is the Bi-Fold futon frame, which has a similar design, but with a bi-fold operation. It is still low-profile, however you don’t have to worry about cascading your mattress over the frame. Both of these frames feature an unfinished poplar hardwood that is strong. Since it is unfinished you can stain it, or even paint it your school’s colors.

If you’re looking for something a tad more elegant, you can’t go wrong with Strata Furniture. These sophisticated frames feature a unique wall hugger design, allowing you to place this frame right against the wall and operate it only in the front of the frame.

Futon Mattress

Futon Mattresses have come a long way. Majority of the people who I speak with think of futons from Wal-Mart or Ikea with thin, practically non-existent mattresses. Futon Planet offers over 40 futon mattresses, ranging from a variety of thicknesses and comfort levels. Majority of the complete sets feature the Orbit futon mattress as the default. Perfect for very infrequent use, the Orbit is only 3 to 4 inches thick. The Lunar futon mattress is about 5 inches thick and can be slept on every day, but I would still recommend upgrading to something a little more comfortable.

MoonshadowWhen students ask, “whats the best mattress?”, I immediately show them the Moonshadow, which my colleague Joe discussed in a previous blog. The Moonshadow is consistently one of the most popular and beloved futons in America.

Futon Cover

You’ve picked out your frame and your cozy mattress. Now it is time to add a cover. This part gets people in trouble. Futon Planet boasts one of the largest cover selections available from some of the most respectable futon manufactures. From basic washable covers to high-grade upholstery, Futon Planet, literally has you covered.

Conclusion

So now you have your books, classes scheduled, ramen noodles and your functional futon. You’re college experience is waiting for you around the corner!
