Futon Mattresses are available in a variety of sizes. Not only are futon mattresses available in standard twin, full, queen and king sizes; they are also available split configurations that work with chair and loveseat size futon frames.
This two-part blog will provide information on standard size futon mattresses and chair & loveseat size futon mattresses.
Note: Futon mattresses are a little different than standard, or traditional box spring mattresses. A futon mattress may not measure the exact length listed. This is because the materials and construction of a futon mattress is very different than a standard mattress and may be slightly more or less than what is listed.
Twin Size Futon Mattress
Twin: 75 inches long by 39 inches wide
Twin Extra Long: 80 inches long by 39 inches wide
A twin size mattress is perfect for a single person. Usually we hear customers ordering twin size futon mattress for their children or college student. Not all futon frames or futon mattresses are available in a twin size. So be sure that the futon mattress and futon frame that you are interested is available in twin size.
Twin sizes are sometimes available in extra long to accommodate taller people.
Full Size Futon Mattress
75 inches long by 54 inches wide
Full size futon mattresses and futon frames are the most common sizes for a futon. Full size may also be referred to as a double size in some circles in the sleep industry.
Queen Size Futon Mattress
80 inches long by 60 inches wide
Queen sizes are one of the more popular futon mattress sizes for couples as there is amble room with 30 inches for each person. Queen sizes futon mattresses are also longer and should comfortably fit a full grown adult that is shorter than 6½ inches tall. Not all manufacturers offer queen size futon frames and you should double check the frame that you are interested in before making your purchase.
King Size Futon Mattress
Eastern King:76 inches long by 80 inches wide
California King: 72 inches long by 84 inches wide
Unfortunately, king size futon frames are harder to come by, or simply do not exist. However, Futon Planet does offer king size futon mattresses for platform beds that are available in king size.
These are just the standard size futon mattresses. In the next part, I will discuss other futon mattress sizes for loveseat futon frames and chair size futon frames.
