Omni Softgoods Closing its Doors

Omni Softgoods has announced that they are closing their doors and going out of business. They will continue to fulfill orders for another 4 weeks as long as they have the material available.

Futon cover retail companies and futon customers alike, will suffer the loss of one of the most well-known futon cover manufacturers in the futon industry.

Omni Softgoods, as the name implies, was not only a manufacturer of futon covers, but also of duvets, pillows, window treadments, and much more.  Their craftmanship was well above par and this made them a very popular futon cover company.

Omni futon covers will likely be unavailable to consumers altogether by July 2007. Other companies that will pick up the slack include SIS Covers and Cottonbelle that continue to make high quality futon covers.

  1. Hello,

Might you be able to help me with cleaning instructions for my Omni Softgoods Futon Cover? I lost the instructions they sent with the cover…

The cover is 100% cotton, yet says Dry Clean Only on the label. There is a S symbol on the label, with a line under it.

I live in Ireland and the Dry Cleaners here are reluctant to clean it for me, as they are unfamiliar with the label.

    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Lisa

  2. That is really a difficult one. As a general rule we tell people when a cover reads “dry clean,” they should follow the instructions. In your case you have dilemma. It sounds like you only have one option which is to try to wash it yourself since your cleaners will not touch it.

If need be, you’ll be ordering a new cover, but hopefully it works out.

Company’s will often opt to label something as “dry clean only” to play it safe. It could be that something strange might happen to the material Perhaps it is prone to beading or the colors can run easily.

Probably, the best bet, is to fill your tub with cold water and wash the cover with a light and diluted detergent. Go to the shelves at the store and read the labels of various detergents to see if you can come up with the right agent. Perhaps someone in Ireland knows what kind of detergent will do best. Ask around.

When you are done washing and rinsing it out, line dry it and see how it looks from there. If its ruined, you can always order one online from Futon Planet. http://futonplanet.com
