Simmons futon mattresses went off the radar screen with the sudden announcement by United Sleep Products, that they had gone out of business. United Sleep Products, who manufactured the Simmons futon mattress line and had rights to the Simmons label for futons, had run into financial problems this year and looked for financial support from the outside, according to one representative.
According to our source, when the bailout did not come, the writing was all too aparent and United Sleep Products was forced to shutdown operations. Many Simmons futon mattress dealers including Futon Planet, were left with a long list of orders that were not going to be filled which forced companies to call their respective customers and offer other solutions from other futon mattress manufacturers.
The Simmons futon mattress line might be picked up by another manufacturer in the near future. It is hoped that this manufacturer will offer the same services that United Sleep Products had been offering to its premium grade customers like Futon Planet.
The Simmons line futon mattresses ranged from entry level to premium grade. Although, there were several mattresses that outperformed the rest, the selection was wide and allowed futon dealers the ability to offer their clientele a myriad of mattress options.
Futon Planet is reporting that they will continue to keep their Simmons futon mattress web pages online without making them sellable. It is hoped that customers will tune in and ask about the availability of Simmons futon mattresses and consider alternatives in the interim while Simmons searches for a new futon mattress manufacturer.

Lancaster Online, announced the United Sleep Products factory is back in business under new ownership. Park Place Corp. purchased the assets and open the doors to business, according to Jimmy Orders, president of Park Place Corp.
